Getting Prepared For A New Adoptee
| When adopting a pet you put a lot of thought into what kind of pet, breed, names, size and so on. You want the perfect pet for your family. You should also want your family to be providing the perfect area for your pet. Additional things to consider when adopting a pet is your home pet proofed and do you have the proper needs to bring them home.
Before bringing home any pet be sure that you are familiar with a reputable veterinarian in the area. All vets do not treat all kinds of animals. Some vets are only small animal vets, some are only large animal, and most pets do not treat exotics, so do some investigation into the right vet for your choice of pet. Another thing you will need is the proper cages, habitats or designated area for your pets. Are those area’s pet proofed. Are the electrical cords hidden, no dangerous wires or plants, no nic nacs around to be knocked over? Is the area free of little items that can be ingested easily? If your pets will have access to the kitchen is your trash can properly placed where they can’t get into it or have a pet proof latch. Are there any nooks or crannies that small pets can crawl in to and possibly even get stuck. Make sure that all human food is out of reach. Also be sure that all their pet food for future use is out of reach. The bathroom is always attractive to all types of pets because of the water in the toilet. Be sure that your toilet lid is always securely shut and you are not using any harmful chemicals in it, just in case. Also make sure that all medications are well out of reach in a cabinet so little paws can’t reach them. Being prepared at home is just as important as the decision you are making to adopt.
